Communities in 16 provinces of Thailand's northern region are setting up a network to help prevent and address the problem of human trafficking. The network, launched Tuesday, 28 June, by Mr. Chanyut Khosirinont, director of the government's Women and Families Office, will help ensure that women and children are not lured by international gangs into being trafficked.
Orphans and children from disadvantaged families are thought to be at particular risk from human trafficking gangs, who prey on their victims' ignorance. The network is an acknowledgement that state officials alone cannot address the problem of human trafficking without the involvement of local communities.2
