Cameroon Updates Its Law on Human Trafficking

April 24, 2006

On 15 December 2006, the National Assembly in Cameroon adopted a new law against trafficking of children.

Highlights of the Law

  • Children are defined as individuals under the age of 18 years
  • Trafficking in children is defined as the recruitment, transfer, harboring, or acquisition of children for the ends of exploitation, by force, fraud or coercion or other forms of constraint, forcibly removing, fraud, trickery, abuse of authority, or the making of a profit within a situation of vulnerability, by offering or accepting advantages to obtain the consent of a person having authority over the child.

Cameroon's law reflects the definition of trafficking accepted by the international community.
