Yunnan Public Security Agencies (China) Rescued over 2,000 Trafficked Women and Children over Last Five Years1

During the Fourth Provincial Meeting on Women and Children in Yunnan, the Yunnan Public Security Agencies announced that in the course of combating the crime of trafficking of women and children that they had rescued over 2,000 trafficked women and children over the last five years. According to the Yunnan Provincial Police Department, across the province from 2001 until the present there have been over 1,794 cases of trafficking of women and children uncovered, 4,411 suspects apprehended, and 2,179 trafficked women and children rescued. According to incomplete statistics, from the beginning of this year the Provincial Public Security Agencies have smashed 187 cases of cross-border trafficking: there have been 256 suspects apprehended, which includes 42 from Vietnam, 5 from Lao, and 37 from Myanmar, and there have been 590 trafficked women and children rescued, including nationals from Vietnam, Lao, Myanmar, as well as China.
