Vietnam and Australia Co-operate in Fight Against Human Trafficking1

December 17, 2005

Australia will provide the Vietnamese Border Defence Command with facilities for two rooms for checking passports and other papers.

A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed in Hanoi on December 16 by Colonel Nguyen Canh Hien, Deputy Commander of the Border Defence Force, and Bill Tweddell, Australian Ambassador who represented Australia’s Ministry of Immigration and Multi-culture and Indigenous Affairs.

Colonel Hien the Deputy Commander of the Border Defence Force expressed thanks to the Australian Government and Ministry of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs for providing the facilities with the aim of sharing experiences and professional capability in controlling border areas and migration activities, combating trafficking in humans and related crimes, and boosting international co-operation in the fight against terrorism. The Ambassador expressed wishes for more opportunities to expand co-operation in the fight against human trafficking.
