1st Mekong Hill Tribe Concert a Success

December 2004

The entire 5 hour concert, (attended by some 5000 including several UN agencies, bilateral donor partners, and INGOs) was broadcast by radio to 14 provinces in northern Thailand as well as to southern China, northern Burma, and northern Laos. One hour of it was also broadcast on prime time national television, which covers the entire country, as well as parts of Burma, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

UNESCO Bangkok works on radio soap messages related to HIV/AIDS. Securing a second phase of funds for this activity would also permit UNESCO Regional Bangkok office, in collaboration with UNESCO Hanoi and Phnom Penh, to work with ethnic minorities in Viet Nam and Cambodia.
