Mekong Youth Net (MYN)

March 26, 2006

The plans for the third Mekong Youth Net (MYN) programme are currently in progress. If you have participated as a host organization for youth leaders in the past, we would like to thank you for your support of the programme and welcome you to join in MYN-3. If you are new to MYN, here is a brief introduction to the programme. The Mekong Youth Net is a project of the Development and Education Programme for Daughters and Communities (DEPDC). The purpose of DEPDC and the MYN programme is to work toward the prevention of human trafficking, the protection of women and children who are at risk of becoming trafficking victims, and the development and strengthening of communities. The object of the MYN programme is to create a network across the Mekong Sub-region that can cooperate in the fight against all forms of abusive behaviors against children and women, expecially trafficking. DEPDC selects promising young women from six different countries (Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, China, Myanmar, and Thailand) to participate in the MYN programme. These young women must demonstrate leadership potential and be  committed to working with children and communities. Over the course of a year, these participants live at DEPDC and study a variety of subject including language, psychology, human rights, leadership skills, and issues facing the indigenous peoples of the region. After this year of training, the young women return to their home countries to work with their host organization or to begin their own project. Please see the attached documents to learn more about DEPDC and the MYN programme. After the success of MYN-1 and MYN-2, we look forward with excitement to the upcoming third year of the MYN programme.

Thank you so much for your interest and your participation in the MYN programme. We look forward to working with you.

Kindest Regards,

Mr. Sompop Jantraka
Director and Founder, DEPDC
