The Women's Union in Vietnam's southern Kien Giang province has set up hotlines to fight trafficking of women and children. Lam Le Ha, vice chairwoman of the union, said the move was part of a project to raise awareness of trafficking initiated by the International Organization for Migration. Kien Giang lies on the border with Cambodia and trafficking women and children across the border is a major problem there. The landline number is 077.926.989 and mobile phone, 0918.625.887. All calls to the landline from within the province will be free. Kien Giang has been grappling with trafficking since the standard of living and awareness levels of its residents remain low. Many women and children are duped into traveling to Cambodia with promises of improvements to their lives. But the majority end up being forced into sex work.
