Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children, May 2007.

The Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children is pleased to announce the release of  The U.S. Response to Human Trafficking: An Unbalanced Approach, a report that covers the United States's efforts to protect trafficked persons found in the United States. The report is the last of a four part series.  Previous reports in the series focused on Nepal, Columbia, and the United Kingdom.

The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 was a groundbreaking step in addressing the issue of trafficking worldwide. Between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficked into the U.S. each year. Since 2000, however, only 675 people have been determined as trafficked into the U.S. The report highlights the law enforcement approach currently in practice in the United States and recommends a shift to a rights based, protection centered approach.
