Activities
The Observatory on trafficking is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-religious, non-discriminatory and independent organization, integrating scientific and ethical committee in the pursuit of integrity. The Observatory on trafficking is devoted to the understanding of trafficking, highlighting scientific consistency, through observation and monitoring illegal activities.
It was created in 2003 firstly as a department of another legal entity named AFESIP (Agir Pour Les Femmes En Situation Précaire). In 2005, The Observatory on Trafficking became independent and started to operate on its own.
The Observatory aims to inform the international communities about trafficking with scientific evidence and seeks to promote adapted legal framework and political strategies in the plight against trafficking. The will of The Observatory is to promote academic collaboration between Universities, International Research Institutes and field NGO's. Currently, the observatory is collaborating with partners in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China, Burma, Malaysia, France, Switzerland, Spain, Australia and the US.
Aims and Objectives:
- To efficiently act as the strategic and technical support for other stakeholders working on trafficking issues.
- To bring efficient recommendations to fight all forms of trafficking.
- To Coordinate among partners activities related to researches as such as women studies, trafficking, poly-traffic. The multidisciplinary approach will be emphasis.
- To enhance capacity building of local partners and students in promoting scholars, sharing experience with international experts, professors and universities.
- To manage a library related to Khmer and regional studies. This library will be open to publics comprising international standards for document's classification and management.
- To consult and orientation different organizations and institutions in the field of trafficking.
- To propose legal analysis and advice for governments, international institutions and non government organizations related to trafficking with more specific inputs in law enforcement issues.
- To campaign against all forms of traffics through political proposition (Create synergies between institutes to increase awareness and political sensitization)
- To monitor NGOs and/or related programs working on trafficking in a way to strengthen impact of the respected projects.
- To follow the evolution of poly-trafficking.
- To conduct researches with a regional approach.
- To organize events as such as workshops, conferences, debates and produce publications.
- To promote exchange of south to south cooperation.
In the development context, its methods of intervention are: to help in the acquisition of understanding of trafficking issues, know-how transfer, institutional support and support for specific projects of research, monitoring of programs and actions, advocacy, awareness-raising and mobilization of civil society.
The observatory is not a direct implementing agency for relief operation but come in support to them.
