Created with the assistance of the University of San Francisco School of Law program, the Cambodian Bar Association assists persons within Cambodia in becoming skilled human rights lawyers and advocates. The University of San Francisco has facilitated this process by providing classes to promising lawyers of Cambodia. Sudents who meet certain minimal requirements are admitted to the Bar after a prescribed course of study.
Since 1994, the Center for Law and Global Justice at the University of San Francisco has assisted the Royal Cambodian Government in rebuilding its law-related institutions destroyed during the Khmer Rouge reign of terror. Funding has been provided primarily by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as well as by money from private foundations and contributions from the governments of Australia and Japan.
The Cambodian Bar Association provides legal representation for victims of trafficking and children, as well as works to provide recommendations to government ministries for Trafficking in Persons legislation in Cambodia.
