Activities

UNIFEM is the women’s fund at the United Nations. It provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies to foster women’s empowerment and gender equality.

UNIFEM work in Cambodia has therefore focused on supporting women in politics and working to eliminate violence against women. There have also been small but important efforts at handicraft development, and in 2003 the Economic Governance programme worked to engender the Cambodia national statistical system, alongside efforts with the World Bank and the ADB to engender poverty reduction strategies like the MDGs.

UNIFEM Best Practices: Using the Media to Promote Women in Politics in Cambodia

In 2002, UNIFEM and UNIAP developed a briefing kit “Trafficking in Persons: a Gender and Rights Perspective”, which addresses the trafficking issue from a gender and rights perspective.
