The Asia Foundation programs aim not only to address but also to prevent all forms of violence against women, ranging from domestic violence to such heinous acts as acid-throwing and deliberate bride burning to the trafficking of women and children. Traffickers specifically target the most vulnerable groups and Foundation programs prevent and address trafficking through research, public education, legal rights training, legal aid, and cross-border coordination to bring traffickers to justice.
The Asia Foundation’s anti-trafficking programs across Asia have enabled partner organizations – both government and non-governmental – to develop and test models and strategies and implement programs to prevent trafficking, protect victims, and help bring traffickers to justice. Currently, the Asia Foundation is implementing anti-trafficking programs at the regional level in Asia, but also in Japan, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Mongolia, The Philippines, and Nepal.
