Activities

Asia Against Child Trafficking (Asia ACTs), based in the Philippines, is the regional campaign to fight child trafficking in Southeast Asia.

Asia ACTs is part of the International Campaign against Child Trafficking (ICaCT) coordinated by Terre des Hommes (TDH)-Germany and the International Federation of Terre des Hommes. In October 2001, TDH launched the International Campaign against Child Trafficking (ICaCT) with the objective of providing better protection for children and to ensure that child traffickers are prosecuted.

Asia ACTs works by complementing the efforts of other child rights organizations and agencies. It seeks to forge alliances with groups dedicated to protecting children. The regional campaign will also encourage and enlist the participation of children and young people in their own protection and development. Asia ACTs believes that children’s participation is important for the campaign’s success.

The goal is to empower communities to take pro-active measures to protect children. All over Southeast Asia, Asia ACTS has worked to develop 10,000 advanced communities that vigilantly protect their children. These 10,000 advanced villages--only 5% of villages in Southeast Asia--will become models that set the standard for community cooperation in the various areas of work:

  • Prevention -- improving socio-economic conditions through livelihood programs, cultural and values education, training
  • Monitoring and investigation of cases
  • Rescue and recovery of victims
  • Social reintegration of victims
