Activities

CHR undertakes two main programs—human rights protection and human rights promotion—through a nationwide network of 14 regional offices and six sub-regional offices. These offices are staffed by trained investigators, lawyers, training specialists and information officers who actively link up with other government and international governmental agencies, as well as local and international non-governmental organizations involved in human rights work.

The Commission's function is to inform and educate the Philippine community on human rights values, principles and laws. The Commission is actively conducting human rights advocacy courses for police and military officers and teachers' training seminars for public school teachers nationwide.

There are also new developments in the Commission, particularly on the protection and promotion of the rights of women. There is a newly established Women's Human Rights Centre (WHRC) headed by one of the Division Chiefs.
