Activities

The Department of Justice is the Chair of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT). The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 states that the Department of Justice shall ensure the prosecution of persons accused of trafficking and designate and train special prosecutors who shall handle and prosecute cased of trafficking. It shall also establish a mechanism for free legal assistance for trafficked persons, in coordination with the DSWD, integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) and other NGOs and volunteer groups.

 News:

"National Conference on Anti-Human Trafficking Set on September 20, 2006". The conference is being supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Asia Foundation, Plan Philippines and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

"DOJ Receives US Grant to Curb Trafficking", September 2006.  The grant will provide funds for the purchase of high-end surveillance equipment and vehicles and other necessary supplies that will augment the conduct of surveillance and rescue operations of victims by the NBI and other law enforcement agencies.
