Activities
World Vision is currently implementing a regional anti-trafficking project that covers Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. The goal of the Mekong Delta Regional Trafficking Strategy (MDRTS) project is to reduce the number of women and children trafficked for sex work or other forms of exploitative labor within and between the target countries. Supporting this goal are four primary objectives:
- Prevention of trafficking in persons through providing economic assistance for the vulnerable, strengthening children/youth participation in trafficking prevention, and raising awareness in local communities.
- Protection of trafficked persons by researching current situation and trends, providing recovery and reintegration services, and capacity building of existing victim recovery service providers.
- Prosecution of traffickers through greater case information exchange between local NGOs, international organizations, and law enforcement agencies and capacity building of appropriate government ministries to investigate, arrest, and convict traffickers.
- Strengthen networks and improve communication, coordination, and cooperation among the five target countries to enhance the sharing of information, training and best practices in assisting trafficking victims in the target countries.
In Vietnam, World Vision Vietnam (WVV) is carrying out the following activites:
- Train selected children in child-to-child techniques for imparting information on trafficking to other children
- Build capacity of local partners at district level through providing training of trainers (TOT) on trafficking prevention
- Develop IEC skills for motivators at commune level for organizing information sessions at communes
- Conduct information sessions for parents, youths, policemen and local key staff
- Design, publish and distribute IEC materials to community and community organizations
- Prepare and distribute materials for publication on local, regional and national newspapers and radio
- Conduct survey of trafficking patterns to determine the project sites and carry out situational analyses on the trafficking routes in major cities and towns.
