Activities

FFW is an NGO working on the issue of violence against women and other development/social issues as they relate to women. FFW provides information, support, referral, and emergency financial assistance to women who have been victims of exploitation, violence and trafficking. FFW works with villagers in the North and Northeast to oppose coerced prostitution and domestic violence. FFW offers small-scale credit schemes for alternative economic projects and conducts research on international migration and trafficking, adolescent sexuality, and domestic violence.

With regards to trafficking, FFW undertakes the following activities:

  • social services, including counseling, legal aid, referral to women’s shelters and follow-up assistance as required
  • provision of information about trafficking (newsletters, posters, videos, handbooks) for use in villages
  • dissemination of information through the mass media
  • works within the International Detention Center (IDC) in Thailand, cooperating with authorities to identify victims of trafficking amongst the illegal immigrants. FFW provides information to the victims about their options
  • provides services for the purposes of rehabilitation and reintegration to Thai women who have been trafficked and returned to Thailand

In 2006, FFW has launched a program called Partners in Action: Reclaiming the Rights of Trafficked Women and Children whereby they are inviting applicants, through a proposal process, to visit Thailand for two months and collaborate with FFW to assist trafficked women and children. The selected representatives from Burma, Laos, and Cambodia will join FFW's team in conducting activities in IDCs in Bangkok and border provinces to identify trafficked women and children who need further assistance.
