The Hotline Center Foundation and the Royal Thai Police were involved in training emergency hotline operators how to assist and protect victims of trafficking and violence, especially women and children. The goal of the project was to enhance public awareness of the hotline and train schools on its importance as a tool for public safety.
During the last 4 years, the Hotline Center Foundation has been involved in providing Counseling and Training Courses for police and Immigration Officers in 10 provinces that border other countries, and also police in Bangkok. These activities were funded by the US Embassy in Bangkok. UNICEF supported a group of 191 police in Bangkok which has now ended. The Asia Foundation supported a television project on Anti Trafficking which lasted for 3 years. The television programs are ongoing with the local support which aim to eliminate violence against women and children and to promote mental health of Thai people. The television programs run every Friday at 1.30pm. The US Embassy has also funded the Hotline Shelter for women and children who were victims of violence of all kinds including human trafficking.
Through their 20 years of experience, The Hotline Center Foundation has trained police on how to manage and counsel those women and teenagers who are victims of violence. Thai police traditionally have not been trained to be sensitive to recognizing mental health problems, and gender sensitive issues, especially domestic violence. The Hotline Center wants to ensure that there is no abuse from the Thai police as well because they are first responders to cases of domestic violence. Hotline CF has tried to reach access police academies to train them from the beginning, though this has been a challenge. Hotline Center Foundation is working hard to organize a Counseling Training School for Thailand since the counseling skills are still new for Thai people and only Thai people with experiences could train Thai people.
