Activities

Baan Kredtrakarn (Kredtrakarn Home) was established in July 1960 under the former Department of Public Welfare.

Baan Kredtrakarn also provides protection and assistance to women and children who are victims of trafficking, in conformity with the Act concerning Measures of Prevention and Suppression of Trafficking in Women and Children of 1997.

Kredtrakarn is authorized by 1999 and 2003 MOUs among NGOs and government agencies to provide assistance to all trafficked victims of Thai, non-Thai and unidentified nationalities. Baan Kredtrakarn provides shelter and welfare support and assistance to three categories of girls and women: 1) girls and women who were taken out of prostitution; 2) women who suffer from social problems; 3) women and girls who are victims of trafficking.

In their Shelter capacity, Baan Kredtrakarn can accommodate up to 550 girls and women enrolled for recovery services. Other services include food, medical care, counseling, psycho-social recovery, education, vocational training, early child development center, reintegration assistance, and family assistance.

The process of protection of the girls and women included enrollment, orientation, interviewing, medical care, legal assistance, family tracing and assessment, repatriation and integration and follow up.

The process of repatriation and reintegration of non-Thai residents is particularly interesting. The social workers or caretakers will accompany the victims home to ensure safe repatriation and cooperation will local agencies for continued assistance. Fore foreigners, with cooperation from GOs, NGOs, and international organizations, the victims are repatriated to their home countries or safe places based on a principle of safe repatriation. Efforts are made to ensure that there are organizations at the source countries responsible for the safe return and successful reintegration of the victims. The Centre coordinates with the Immigration Bureau and relevant embassies to arrange for travel documents as well as identification documents. 1
