The Garden of Hope Foundation is an award winning non-government, non-profit group established in 1988 to help disadvantaged girls and young women. In particular, they target girls caught in the sex industry, victims of sexual abuse and family violence.
From one halfway house, their services have grown to include shelters and service centers island-wide providing everything from counseling and temporary housing, to employment training, social work and legal aid. This includes outreach programs for “at-risk” teenagers, services for immigrant spouses and family counseling.
The Garden of Hope contributes to research and government discussions on policy. This has included several key laws involving child welfare and women’s rights.
The Garden of Hope Foundation began the Anti-Child Prostitution Social Movement in 1993. After two years of work, the Legislative Yuan passed the Law to Prevent Sexual Transactions Involving Children and Juveniles, proposed by the Garden of Hope, in July 1995.
They also work to empower girls and young women to take control of their lives.
In 2005 the Garden of Hope Foundation organized the "Strategies for Combating Human Trafficking from Southeast Asia to Taiwan" international conference.
The Garden of Hope Foundation welcomes both donations and volunteers.
