The Criminal Affairs Bureau handles matters concerning control and supervision of public prosecutors (by the Minister of Justice) with regard to the exercise of prosecutorial power, as well as the drafting and interpretation of criminal laws, and matters concerning extradition and international assistance in criminal investigations.
The Bureau has enacted a law to protect the rights of children by prescribing punishment for acts related to child prostitution and child pornography, and by establishing measures including the giving of appropriate protection to children who have suffered physically and/or mentally from the said acts, in light of the fact that sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children seriously infringes upon the human rights of children.1
