Activities

Caritas Australia partners with organizations in countries such as Nepal and Uganda to raise awareness and prevent trafficking. Caritas Australia also sponsors rehabilitation and reintegration programs that provide shelter for returned trafficked women and children, as well as legal aid, health services, trauma counseling, skills training and education.

Nepal
Caritas Australia, through its partner Caritas Nepal, supports extensive awareness and education programs that serve to prevent human trafficking. Since many women in rural villages in Nepal are illiterate, theatre groups, posters and community radio programs are used as a way to communicate key information about their legal rights and the perils of human trafficking. Caritas Australia also helps sponsor rehabilitation and reintegration programs in Nepal for those being repatriated from sexual slavery in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Uganda
Caritas Australia, through its partners in Uganda, supports the Former Child Soldiers Rehabilitation program. More than 900 former child soldiers will receive the emotional, and physical support to allow them to be fully rehabilitated and reintegrated back into their communities.

The abducted children are taken to rehabilitation centers run by Caritas partners, where they receive counseling that allows them to start to deal with the trauma, anger and sadness of their experiences. Step by step they are slowly reintroduced back into their communities and potentially reunited with their families.
