To support the development of sustainable programs by local organizations to combat trafficking, the Vietnam Women’s Union has conducted a strategic planning workshop to expand its constituency on the trafficking issue and to focus public and official attention on the issue. After the workshop, the Women’s Union will develop a strategic plan to expand its member participation in combating trafficking and to raise the public and other organizations’ attention on this issue. The Vietnam Women’s Union can disseminate research results and other relevant information in all provinces, provide a focal point for provincial and community anti-trafficking planning, and help members mobilize behind anti-trafficking initiatives through the use of various media.
Strategic planning will capitalize on these skills and enable the Women’s Union to structure plans for trafficking prevention that will extend beyond the life of this project. Such plans could expand implementation of community-based prevention programs that respond to the causal factors identified in project research activities. Provinces that did not participate in the workshop can refer the strategic plan to their planning and implementation of program and projects anti trafficking in their provinces. This plan will also help provinces where the project is being carried out to better implement the 2004–2007 anti-trafficking action plan in Vietnam proposed by the Women’s Union as well as the national action plan 2004–2010 on prevention and combat against trafficking.
