On December 1-2, 2003 at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York in New York City, The Freedom Network USA held its Second Annual Conference “Two-Year Review: Is the New Human Trafficking Law* Working?”
The Freedom Network USA is a network of organizations in the United States which provide services to trafficked persons in some of the major trafficking cases in the US and actively promote a human rights response to trafficking worldwide and in the United States. The Conference was co-organized by the International Organization for Adolescents or (IOFA) and Safe Horizon.
In addition to a number of panels addressing different aspects of trafficking in the United States, participants could have attended a one day training offered by the Freedom Network Institute: “Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery: Basic Tools for an Effective Response.” Those who participated in the training received a Freedom Network Tool Kit containing presentation slides, useful forms, contact information, and supplemental reference materials.
The panels for the other participants included learning about the certification process for trafficking victims, assisting trafficked children, nuances of trafficking in various labor industries, and assessment of U.S. government’s activities to combat trafficking in persons in the US and abroad.
