Thailand to Hold Government Workshop on Human Trafficking

The Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Thai Royal Police and the United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking in the Great Mekong Sub-region (UNIAP) is holding a meeting on 13-14 May 2004 in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

The objectives of the meeting are to discuss the situation of human trafficking in the region and internationally, and to coordinate in setting up a plan to prevent and suppress human trafficking. The report from the meeting will be submitted to the National Meeting on Countering Human Trafficking at the Government House between July – August 2004 in which the Royal Thai Government Policy on Counter Human Trafficking will be announced by the Prime Minister. The meeting will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and UNIAP is assisting with the arrangements of the meeting.
