On April 13, 2004, the first of its kind forum was held to discuss trafficking in women and children in Malaysia. Suhakam translates to mean Malaysian Human Rights Commission. There was wide participation by government ministries, NGOs, and foreign embassies. Suhakam's Vice-Chairman suggested that a Memorandum of Understanding be signed among neighbouring countries to stem the trafficking of girls and women into Malaysia.
Suhakam Commissioner said Suhakam would compile a report based on the feedback from the conference for submission to the Government for action.
