The Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative Against Human Trafficking (COMMIT) seeks to provide the basis for a strengthened multi-sectoral response to human trafficking in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). The Royal Government of Cambodia has been actively involved in the COMMIT process since its inception in late 2003.
The Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to eliminating human trafficking in Cambodia and the region and is dedicated to achieving the goals outlined in the COMMIT SPA. The COMMIT SPA comprises 10 areas of intervention (called Project Proposal Concepts) agreed on by the signatory countries (Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam). Project Proposal Concept Number 8 (PPC8) under the COMMIT SPA outlines the intention of the six Governments to address exploitative brokering practices.
This Dissemination Workshop, funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Bangkok, provides an opportunity for the Cambodian COMMIT Taskforce to present and disseminate new research findings on exploitative labour brokerage practices in Cambodia. The new Study into Exploitative Labour Brokerage Practices in Cambodia is the first pilot study on Project Proposal Concept 8 (PPC8) in the region. The study marks a step towards bridging the information gap on human trafficking in Cambodia and the region and provides a stepping stone for further regional action in this area.
