Frontiers of Film invites you to a screening of the documentary 'Stolen Childhoods' on Wednesday, 19 October 2005. This is the first UK public screening of a film which has been described as "the best movie on contemporary slavery out there" by Tommy Calvert of the American Anti-Slavery Group. The screening will be followed by a Q&A addressing the key issues raised by the film.
Seven years in the making, "Stolen Childhoods" is the first feature documentary on global child labour ever produced. Shot in eight countries, (Brazil, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal and the United States), the film features stories about child labourers told in their own words. It places their stories in the broader context of the worldwide struggle against child labour, currently affecting an estimated 246 million of the world's children, and goes on to offer real working solutions to one of the most critical global problems of our time.
"Stolen Childhoods" includes interviews with 2004 Nobel Peace prize winner, Wangari Maathai, Indian human rights activist, Kailash Satyarthi, and US Senator Tom Harkin.
