Event Details

Vital Voices Global Partnership, the American Institute in Taiwan, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, and the Taiwanese NGO Garden of Hope Foundation are co-sponsoring a regional conference to bring together path-breaking leaders working in government and non-governmental offices to fight trafficking in persons. Sessions will focus on the increasing number of victims being trafficked into Taiwan for both sexual and labor exploitation. The conference aims to help the Taiwanese authorities develop comprehensive and effective legal policies to tackle trafficking from Southeast Asia and Mainland China to Taiwan.

Speakers will include Taiwanese Vice President Annette Lu and the Taiwanese Ministers of Justice, the Interior, and Foreign Affairs. Participants will also look at ways to create and implement public awareness campaigns; build coalitions between government and non-government groups; facilitate effective law enforcement responses to trafficking and the prosecution of traffickers; and create prevention programs and provide services for victims.
