Indonesian President signs National Action Plan

December 23, 2002 President Megawati announced her approval of the National Plan of Action for the Elimination of Trafficking in Persons and Children. The approximately 60 page anti trafficking in persons document charts the GIO's overall anti TIP strategy over a five year period (2003 2007). It set out a list of objectives, including a 10 percent annual increase in the number of cases against traffickers processed in the legal system. As a planning document, it will help shifting additional budget to sections in the Indonesian government that deal with the issue.
